Clean frames without damaging the surface
Use water, a mild household detergent and a soft cloth or non-abrasive sponge. Remove loose grit first so it does not scratch the frame. Avoid abrasive powders, metal tools, aggressive solvents and petroleum-based cleaners unless the window manufacturer specifically approves them.
Rinse residues from corners and drainage tracks, then dry the frame. Construction stains such as cement, paint or sealant should be removed with a method confirmed for the exact profile finish; improvised solvents can discolor or soften uPVC and gaskets.
Keep tracks and drainage paths open
Vacuum or brush tracks after dusty periods and building work. Identify visible weep holes and remove loose debris without enlarging them or pushing material deeper into the frame. Never cover a drainage slot with caulk because it appears to be a gap.
Pouring large volumes of water into an unknown frame is not a maintenance test. If drainage is suspect, inspect the system route and use controlled water only after understanding where it should exit.
Inspect gaskets
Wipe gaskets with a damp cloth and mild soap. Check corners, shrinkage, hardening, cuts and areas that no longer contact the sash evenly. Do not apply oils or unapproved chemicals; they can attract dust or degrade elastomers.
If a seal needs replacement, match its groove, shape and compression. A random thicker gasket may make the handle difficult to close while leaving other areas loose. Persistent uneven contact may indicate sash misalignment or frame distortion rather than a gasket defect.
Hardware and adjustment
Operate windows gently and investigate any new resistance. Clean accessible moving parts and lubricate only at points and with products recommended by the hardware manufacturer. Do not oil friction surfaces, gaskets or locks indiscriminately.
Professional adjustment can realign minor sash drop and locking keeps. Repeated loss of alignment suggests an oversized sash, inadequate reinforcement, loose hinge fixing or an out-of-square frame and requires a broader diagnosis.
Pleated insect screens
Use low suction and a soft brush to remove dust while supporting the mesh. Avoid high-pressure water, harsh scrubbing and sharp tools. Clean the lower guide so debris does not force the mesh or cords out of line.
Open and close the screen with an even pull. If movement becomes uneven, inspect the guide and tension system rather than forcing the handle. A damaged cord, torn mesh or detached guide should be repaired before continued use expands the damage.
A practical schedule
The Persian source recommends cleaning tracks and drainage routes seasonally and after dusty events, wiping gaskets every six months, and inspecting hardware annually or whenever operation changes. These are sensible starting intervals, not universal warranty rules. Increase frequency for exposed elevations and follow the product manufacturer's instructions where they differ.
Record unusual leakage, condensation or hardware changes early. Routine care cannot fix a failed insulating-glass seal, cracked frame or weak anchorage, but it makes genuine defects easier to identify before they become larger repairs.
Pleated insect screens
Remove loose dust with low suction or a soft brush while supporting the mesh. Do not force a jammed screen or use high-pressure water on the pleats. Clean guide channels and check that cords remain correctly tensioned and routed. If the mesh retracts unevenly, stop using it until the guides, cord and cassette can be inspected; repeated forcing can turn a minor alignment problem into torn mesh or damaged fittings.
